UAE Teachers not Allowed to Coach their school students

UAE Private Teacher work permit intends to stop unlicensed and unlawful private tuition.

Teachers in the United Arab Emirates are not allowed to coach their school students using work permit for private tutions.

According to the details, in order to obtain a work permit for private tuition, teachers are required to sign a “code of conduct” which clearly prohibits them from “providing services directly to students affiliated with their schools.”

This “code of conduct” document consists of 7 points which states that disclosure of any conflict of interest is necessary.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorized private tuition in December of last year along with the issuance of a new license to conduct coaching outside of schools.

Educators stated that they would discourage teachers from privately tutoring their own kids since there could be a conflict of interest when the permit was originally announced. They had expressed doubts about the teachers’ capacity to uphold justice or neutrality, particularly in cases involving evaluations.

What is Code of conduct for Private Tuitions?

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has defined private tuitions as the “practice of providing educational lessons outside of school hours by qualified educators”.

Applicants must have to sign the code of conduct with other documents to get the two-year work permit. The teachers are instructed to be professional and should not indulge into sending emails or images to the students.

What subjects can be taught?

Registered teachers, those already holding jobs, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university pupils are among those who can apply for the UAE work permit that is issued free of charge. Private teachers with a work permit issued by the MoHRE website can teach a range of subjects. Some of them are as under:

  • Academic subjects like math, physics, chemistry, geology, sociology, food science etc.
  • Languages like English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German etc.
  • Business topics like commerce, accounting and economics.
  • Social subjects like history and geography.
  • Art and design
  • Arabic and Islamic studies
  • Physical education
  • Film and video production, graphic design and multimedia
  • Dance, music and theatre.

How to apply for Private Teacher Work Permit?

UAE Private Teacher work permit intends to stop unlicensed and unlawful private tuition as parents look for instructors to support their kids’ education.

There will be fines and penalties for anyone found providing private coaching without a valid licence. Those who meet the requirements can apply for the permission via the MoHRE app or website.

Depending on who is applying, different requirements apply. These are some of the documents that might be needed:

  • Valid UAE residency (passport/Emirates ID)
  • Signed code of conduct
  • Certificate of good conduct
  • No-objection certificate from the employer
  • No-objection certificate from the guardian (for students looking to offer private tuitions)
  • Experience certificate (if any)
